The Bitcoin Foundation has announced their first affiliate organization in Southern-central Europe, according to a Wednesday press announcement.
Dubbed Bitcoin Institut (or simply as Bitcoin Foundation Slovenia) is just one of the latest affiliates to join the Bitcoin Foundation in their endeavors to protect, standardize, and expand the reach of bitcoin around the world.
The Slovenia arm is specifically focused on several elements. First, educating the local public on bitcoin and cryptocurrency payments. Second, helping build strong local communities. Third, helping support both businesses and projects that make use of bitcoin. And finally, serve as a media liaison.
“Bitcoin Foundation is clearly the leading nonprofit trade organization globally for this digital currency movement,” said Sergij Foski, Chairman of Bitcoin Institut. “The foundation’s vision to ensure all people have the opportunity to realize Bitcoin’s potential is powerful and something we believe in and can really rally behind.”
Foski will be joined by board members: Ziga Turk, Aleksander Kucler, Gregor Karlovsek, Gregor Knafelc, Luka Pusic, and Ziga Bobinac.
“When I spoke with Sergij Foski , I was amazed how much of Bitcoin Institut’s goals and values resonated with our own,” said Mark Woods, who serves as the Affiliate Director for the Bitcoin Foundation. “I’m extremely excited to have a solid team on the ground to lead the way for Bitcoin’s adoption in Slovenia.”
The Bitcoin Foundation now has about nine affiliates around the world in Australia, Bangladesh, Canada, Denmark, Germany, Mexico, The Netherlands, Romania, and of course, Slovenia.
